Volunteer Training Series

The Oakland Literacy Coalition is hosting its Spring 2012 Volunteer Training Series from March 12 - March 15 from 4-6 PM at Westlake Middle School.  The free trainings are available to anyone volunteering in Oakland schools, though the workshops focused on working with students in grades K-3.

New volunteers can get a free TB test and voucher to cover the cost of the Live Scan fingerprinting.  Volunteers wishing to receive a TB test must be present on BOTH Monday and Thursday between 4:00 and 4:30 PM.  For prospective volunteers looking to learn about the different programs and opportunities, a information session will take place on both Monday and Thursday between 3:30 and 4:00 PM where you will have an opportunity to talk with representatives from different programs and get help deciding which is the best fit for you!

Workshop topics will include: Conducting an Effective Read Aloud, Choosing a "Just Right" Book, Diversity and Cultural Competence, Effective Communication with Children and Youth, and Working with English Language Learners. Please see the attached flyer for a complete schedule of workshops.
