Oakland Ready to Learn provides parent/child groups for refugee and Native families. The curriculum is culturally based and promotes school readiness, language development and early literacy. Parents are actvely involved, some of the program is project based, and the refugee program has a sheltered English component. All programs promote reading in the home and reinforce a parent's rile as the child's strongests and most influential teacher. We also provide educational children's activities at family nights, holiday events, community events and pow-wows, and we provide fieldtrip, parent education, school supplies and children's activities at preschools.
