Description
- Description
The Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) recruits and trains a diverse group of volunteers to become reading tutors in the San Francisco Bay Area’s under-resourced PUBLIC elementary schools. Tutors are matched with a K-3 grade student, and the pair spends the semester or school year reading together and developing a strong relationship while building literacy skills. JCL engages our volunteers in tikkun olam, healing the world, and welcomes all members of the community—students, seniors, parents and professionals—to participate in the lives of at-risk children, providing the confidence and the strategies that will enable them to become successful readers. JCL is a project of the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, and the Jewish Community Federation of the Greater East Bay.
