Description
- Description
CCEGL was founded in response to a need to empower teachers, students and communities to understand and confront critical social and environmental challenges both locally and globally. Drawing on 15 years of experience, CCEGL supports diverse groups to develop rich educational projects and practices that kindle a passion for learning, foster engaged literacy and build strong learning communities. Our work emphasizes interactive pedagogy and the vital importance of education for a democratic and just society. CCEGL projects, programs and offerings include:
FAMILY LITERACY-CCEGL has developed a model for supporting schools and community groups to develop Family Literacy Programs that demonstrate that a dynamic and highly interactive model has the potential to bring together diverse members of a community and that a culturally and linguistically integrated program can also begin to sow significant seeds for change. Programs include singing and eating together.
RADIO MEDIA PROJECT-This is an apprenticeship program for high school students that provides radio, writing and broadcasting skills.INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL TEACHER COLLABORATION- This Institute supports teachers to gain an environmental and global focus for their teaching so that they may help their students to understand common environmental and social challenges among the world's peoples and to connect these understandings to the development of an engaged and critical literacy.Included in the institute is work with educators in Central America. Teachers meet once per week, in seminar format, supported by films and current readings and may receive 10 academic units from Cal State East Bay for this work.
WORKSHOP OFFERINGS-CCEGL serves as an umbrella organization that coordinates and supports a variety of educational projects connected to our vision and mission.
