Description

Description

Cal Corps is the Public Service Center at the University of California, Berkeley, and connects Cal students to community opportunities. Cal Corps is the home of BUILD, (Berkeley United In Literacy Development), an America Reads program that trains Cal students to serve as literacy tutors to K-8th grade youth in Berkeley and Oakland after-school programs. BUILD tutors develop teaching and tutoring skills, learn about educational issues in the local community, and earn either education units or an hourly wage through Work Study. At the same time, youth in the community increase their literacy skills and are exposed to the possibility of college from college student mentors.
