Hiring a Project Assistant for the Lafayette School Mentoring Project

POSITION SUMMARY: The Lafayette School Mentoring Project’s (LSMP) Project Assistant reports directly to the Project Director to collaboratively oversee the day-to-day operations of this large-multifaceted project. The Project Assistant will help student-tutor pairs, program organization,, and assist the Project Director with general program responsibilities. The Project Assistant is a non-exempt, part-time, position requiring 20 hours per week on-site at the LSMP office, with additional hours as needed for events. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 2-7 and Wednesdays 11-4. There will also be some occasional events or field trips on Friday or Saturdays (about 1-2 per month). Compensation: $18-20 per hour. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General Duties: -Monitor weekly tutoring schedule -Monitor student and tutor attendance -Coordinate the use of programmatic materials -Standard clerical duties including filing, copying and organizing as needed -Special event planning and set-up, such as fundraisers, parties, field trips as necessary -Monitor the project and provide help to parents, tutors, and students when the Project Director is in unavailable -Provide Spanish translation for parents, oral and written -Maintain updated student, tutor, and donor databases system -Manage weekly tutoring schedule -Monitor student attendance -Event management and special event planning such as fundraisers, parties, field trips -Work collaboratively with PD in design, layout, editing, proofreading of published materials -Create and oversee implementation of an ongoing tutor recruitment plan -Community outreach to local churches, non-profits, universities, and businesses for tutor recruitment and donation requests. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE -Prior experience working with children -Prior volunteer experience preferred -Bilingual Spanish / English KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -Knowledge of education/child development -Excellent writing and communication skills -Ability to work independently -Ability to effectively collaborate with others and work with varied populations -Strong computer skills -Satisfactory completion of legally required criminal background check.
